We were designing the new creative pen tablet for Wacom. One of the things we pay attention to was how to prevent the pen from rolling and dropping. Because the experience of hearing your pen hitting the floor could break your heart.
We did two things. First, we created a curved express buttons so it serves as a pen tray on the tablet. Whenever you are taking a break or finished with your work, you can place the pen on the tray, creating a small rituals of ending or starting a creative activity. Second, we designed the shape of the pen buttons elevated so it would stop the pen when rolling.
As a result, you will have less occasion of dropping your pen to the floor, also invited to keep it neatly nested at the tray whenever you are not using.
